- Valid Alabama State EMR, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic License
- BLS C.P.R. certification
- Attend eight (8) regularly scheduled training sessions annually (2 per quarter)
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides pre-hospital emergency medical care and assistance as a non-transport provider within the Harvest Volunteer Fire Department’s EMS division. This role is responsible for responding to medical emergencies, assessing patients, providing appropriate medical interventions within the EMT scope of practice, and assisting transport units when needed. Volunteer EMTs play a crucial role in delivering high-quality patient care while ensuring the safety of the community and supporting the overall mission of the fire department.
Participation in 10% of department calls for service in a calendar year is required to remain an active Fire Department member. Emergency services work constitutes the primary and most difficult and responsible area of work, the volunteer is also required to drill at least 8 times per year for 3 hours. These drills consist of practice sessions dealing with various aspects of hazardous materials awareness and emergency medical work. Time spent at the station may consist of studying, custodial care and a wide variety of maintenance of departmental facilities, apparatus and equipment. Work is usually performed in accordance with explicit instructions and well defined procedures; however, performance of the work requires initiative and the exercise of independent judgment. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Lieutenant or Captain.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform emergency medical services (EMS) and public education duties by responding to alarms of emergency medical assistance, supporting public education in safety and health by applying skills and knowledge in the saving of life, and promoting the health and wellness of district personnel and citizens. Drives and operates district vehicles and apparatus as directed or authorized.
- Maintain facilities and equipment and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Attends required training and maintains required certifications.
- Responds to calls for emergency services, prepared to perform life saving techniques and other onsite care of victims if required.
- Responds to emergency calls for drowning, various rescue situations, accidents and natural or other catastrophes.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in (electronic) writing; understand and follow oral and written instructions; make good judgments; acts appropriately and calmly in emergency situations; performs moderately strenuous activities under EMS circumstances; establishes and maintains effective relationships with other personnel and the general public; prepare complete, accurate reports using English grammar, spelling and mathematics.

License/Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s license and have an AL State EMR, EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic License.
